St. Louis Association of Community Organizations (SLACO) Launches the “Sundy Whiteside Keeping it Clean Neighborhood Cleanups” Initiative.

Local organization to partner with the neighborhood community groups to create a Cleaner, Greener St. Louis Community.

St. Louis, MO – [Feb. 12, 2024] – The St. Louis Association of Community Organizations (SLACO) is proud to announce the launch of its city-wide campaign, the “Sundy Whiteside Keeping it Clean Neighborhood Cleanups” initiative, set to kick off in April. This groundbreaking campaign aims to unite the St. Louis community to beautify our neighborhoods, promote environmental sustainability, and foster a spirit of volunteerism across the city.

With the first cleanup event scheduled for April, SLACO is actively recruiting volunteers to join the movement that aims to clean up our streets and strengthen the bonds within our community. The initiative is supported by local businesses, schools, and organizations working together towards a cleaner, greener St. Louis.

Key Initiative Highlights:

Community-Wide Cleanup Events: Scheduled to begin in April, involving hundreds of volunteers across 14 neighborhoods.

  • Volunteer Recruitment Drive: An open call for community members to join as volunteers, offering various roles and opportunities to make a tangible impact.
  • Interactive Map Feature: A new online tool allowing residents to view cleanup sites and suggest areas that need attention.
  • Sustainability Education: Weekly challenges and tips leading up to the kickoff, encouraging eco-friendly practices among residents.
  • Local Business Collaboration: Highlight local businesses’ vital contributions through sponsorships, donations, and employee volunteerism.

“Through the ‘Sundy Whiteside Keeping it Clean Neighborhood Cleanups’ initiative, we aim to not only enhance the physical landscape of our city but also to nurture a culture of care, collaboration, and community,” says Kevin McKinney, Executive Director of SLACO. “We believe that by coming together, we can create lasting change and set a precedent for community-led initiatives.”

SLACO invites all residents of St. Louis to join this transformative effort. Whether volunteering, spreading the word, or participating in sustainability challenges, every action counts. Together, we can make St. Louis a model city for community engagement and environmental stewardship
